WHO commends Sri Lanka for its handling of swine flu
The World Health Organization has commended the Sri Lankan health authorities for its handling of the first cases of swine flu reported in the country.
WHO representative in the island Dr. Firdosi Rustom Mehta has said the Ministry of Health took all possible steps and managed the situation within 24 hours and acted quickly.
This is not a killer virus and there is no need to panic or overreact, he told the media in Colombo, Sri Lanka yesterday (June 19).
Dr. Mehta said the virus mainly spreads through international travel, and that in that respect Sri Lanka would be safer as it has only one international airport and harbour.
