The lonely demise of veteran singer and artist Mr. Susil Premaratne in his sleep on the early hours of 11th Feb. 2010 was a sad news to me. In late 60s and early 70s he was popular among everyone of us for his famous chithra katha series published in weekend papers like Vanitha Viththi and Lankadeepa (Landesi Hatana, Bili Pujawa,Ridi Kumar, and Randupatha). The melodies like Ko Ada Menika and Ma Aa Mawatha are very popular even today.A man of this caliber cannot be replaced overnight. He was a simple man. Mr. Susil Premaratne was the person who gave the name "Latha" to the popular playback singer, Mrs. Walpola. May he attain the supreme bliss of nibbana.
